Plot

The novel Chains tells the struggles of and 13 year African American girl, Isabel, and her younger sister Ruth during the American Revolution. Both her and her sister are slaves and live a tough household. Isabel and Ruth's previous owner has died so they are now being sold. They are sold to a couple of Loyalist who live in New York named the Locktons. As they fight for thier freedom Isabel and her sister get split up which is bad because all she is worried about is her younger sister and not the war thats going on. Isabel also meets another slave, Curzon, who fights with the patriots. She agrees to be a spy for them, which will help her gain freedom. Eventually they both gain freedom but he got her into more trouble then she had hoped.10/10
